Evaluation

Evaluation

I am really happy with the way my design turned out, although I feel Daniela could have maybe applied the blusher slightly darker to give off more effect on camera but other than that I am pleased with how it turned out.
As for me and Daniela being paired up with each other for our makeup assessment’s I am really happy with this choice and surprisingly glad I didn't get to pick my own partner as I feel Daniela is a very creative person and thinks 'out of the box' a lot which has helped me come out of my shell bit more and push myself when it came to applying her design. I have also realised and learnt that practice makes perfect and the more I practise the better I will become. For the makeup i'd like to think I gave Daniela all the guidance and breakdown she needed to complete my design confidently and without worrying that she didn't understand certain elements.

Daniela provided all the relevant breakdown that I needed and was in continuous communication with me in and outside of University to make sure I was happy with the design and everything that was going into it, which helped put me at ease with the understanding that if there was an issue she was happy to help to me. Overall I am happy with the outcome of our designs and I would happily work with Daniela again.

3 Brush Challenge

3 Brush Challenge

This week we were asked to create a face chart design of a makeup look of our choice and only complete this look using 3 selected brushes of our choice and see how well we could work just using 3 brushes and what the outcome of the makeup design would be like. This was something fun for us to do and I really enjoyed the idea of just only being able to use 3 brushes and also proved to me that as a makeup artist you don't actually need hundreds and hundreds of brushes and that you can rely on a select few to do many different technique's with them.

For my design I choose to do I subtle evening/party look if you like as we are getting into the party season with christmas just around the corner. So i went for warm brown and gold colours with a nude shimmer lip colour.

The brushes I selected to use for this look were:

Small Round Blending Brush
Fluffy Powder Brush
Whitetip Buffing Brush

I feel the overall look turned out quite well considering we were only using 3 brushes and I am happy I chose to work with these three brushes as I think the powder brush and buffing brush are very versatile so can be used for base foundation and concealer and then for contouring, blusher and also lightly blending away any edges to the eye colour or excess product that had fallen from the eyes to the cheeks.
I love the small rounded blending brush we get in our kits as this is also very versatile as you can use this for lip colour application, eye shadows and to blend away any harsh edges that may be visible but also specifically with the eyes you can also use this to smudge in any kohl pencil or dark eyeliner colour you are using to really help smudge in and blend around the eye area.

Here is the outcome of my design using only my 3 selected brushes. I feel I could have added my contouring and blush colour to the cheeks to give the whole look a little more warmth but overall I am pleased with how this turned out.

My Timed Makeup Assessment

My Elizabethan Makeup Assessment

So today I did my makeup assessment and carried out Daniela's design on her. I like to think the final outcome was a success and went well within the time frame we had, considering I hadn't had as much practise at the design as I would have hoped but Daniela did provide me with lots of information and a breakdown of the design incase I did need anything to refresh my mind whilst carrying out the makeup application.

I do feel I could have possibly applied to colour to be more of a stronger outcome of colour, as on the images it does look slightly lighter than anticipated due to the brightness of the flash. I did enjoy carrying out Daniel's design as I thought it was very different to my design and pushed the boundaries more of what "contemporary" means and she really wanted it to be individual and unique and I hope that I managed to reflect that with my application.

Here are some of the final images from today's assessment.

My Partner's Elizabethan Makeup Assessment

Partner Elizabethan Makeup Assessment

On Monday my partner had her actual timed assessment on my Contemporary Elizabethan makeup design that I produced.
I genuinely think this went really well for her and I could see how much effort and hard work Daniela had put into the assessment as she wanted the outcome to be perfect and do it justice as it was a subtle design to begin with. Daniela has been working hard on trying to perfect blocking the eyebrows out using the soap and water technique, which she has been doing really well on that last few times we have practised, however, on assessment day we had to bring in our on bars of soap which turned out to be a different soap to what we have normally used and as the soap began to dry it began to crack slightly around the edges. As for the smoothness and blocking out the colour she did a really good job as they were barely visible.
The overall final outcome of the makeup looked really good and I am happy with how it turned out and it looked exactly how I wanted it to, I am aware that the design was very subtle but I think that's what made it look more contemporary as it focused on the subtle colour of the contoured cheeks and the gold lips.

My Practise of My Partner's Design

Practise Session of My Partner's Design

Over the past month or so me and my partner have been practising our final makeup designs on each other ready for the lead up to the final timed assessment's. Daniela's final design is very different to my design and she has gone at it from a completely different angle of the design process. Practising Daniela's design to start off was slightly confusing as her design was drawn out rather than designed on a face chart using the relevant products so I was slightly confused as to how she wanted to overall outcome to look but this was soon overcome as we sat and discussed what she wanted to the outcome to be and I gave her my input on what I think would work well and together we had the image in mind.
Here are some images of the practise sessions of working on Daniela's design. I do really like the bottom image of Daniela's design as I feel I could really see the design process coming together and the makeup really coming to life.
